Social Care in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is changing in all sorts of ways

Welcome to the Transformation Agenda page. This the page for Personalisation, Self-Directed Support, Personal Budgets and the like. Here are some links to information, advice and guidance from Cambridgeshire County Council:

http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/social/selfdirectedsupport/

http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/social/selfdirectedsupport/infoproviders/pbprovbriefs.htm

We are starting on a new phase in the history of social care in 2009.  In the past there has always been a clear demarcation between the category of service user and that of care provider or care employer. But now for the first time, with the allocation of personal budgets, we're seeing service users becoming the commissioners of care.

What are the implications for service users?

Not all service users will be eligible for the Self-Directed Support arrangements. Highly vulnerable adults will not suddenly be expected to take charge of all aspects of their care provision and/or day-to-day support. Those who are eligible but unsure about how best to proceed, will be able to call upon respected bodies like the County Council, Skills for Care and their local Care Brokerage for suggestions and guidance.

Please contact us if you have any queries related to any of this. Naturally, there will be challenges ahead and new measures for minimising the risks to both service users and carers, but at the same time it is hoped that there will be new freedoms and flexibilities.Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Care Brokerage should always be on hand to help. If you have technical or practical queries about the implementation of the scheme, we should be able to help. If you like, you can contact the Transformation Team directly on 01223 699 650. Alternatively, you can write to: Transformation Team, RES 1209, Shire Hall, Cambridge CB3 0AP.

We have a few lines from Fran Williamson, Paralympic medallist in Beijing, on various aspects of the new set-up in the summer issue of Quarterly Brokerage News.
