Help and support available from the Skills Funding Agency

Skills Funding Agency are a new agency set up by the government to fund and regulate adult skills training in England. They have taken over the work of the Learning and Skills Council, which closed down on 31 March 2010.

They have a website page dedicated to you, the employer, to assist you in finding and understanding the Government supported skills and employment services they offer. These include Train to Gain, Training Quality Standard and the National Employer Service. Click here for more information.

What do you need to know about the new registration system?

The Care Quality Commission is introducing a new registration system for all NHS trusts, independent healthcare providers and adult social care providers in England.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Care Brokerage is supported by Skills for Care and hosted by Cambridgeshire County Council.  Our mission is to keep those that work in social care up-to-date with what you need to know about workforce development and the funding that supports it.

Do you know what our services are and where we may be able to support the needs of your business? We can:

- signpost to possible providers of learning and development
- advise on funding streams that may be available to support your workforce development
- share resources that are offered to you by our stakeholders and partners
- support a sharing of resources between organisations to enable better access to training

Get Connected Investment Fund

This programme, supported by Social Care Institute of Excellence, is aimed at enabling providers to access information and communication technology more effectively. The programme is currently in cycle two which is inviting bids from the private and voluntary adult social care providers registered with CQC. The level of the funding is based on the size of the orgainsation.

Micro and small organisations (employing up to 49 full-time equivalent staff) or domiciliary care agencies with 1–3 branches:

  • Up to a value of £20,000 per grant to improve access to ICT in order to enhance quality of life and/or skills

Medium-sized organisations (employing 50–249 full-time equivalent staff) or domiciliary care agencies with 4–20 branches:

  • Up to a value of £20,000 per grant to improve access to ICT in order to enhance quality of life and/or skills. This is subject to matched funding being identified by the Organisation making the bid.

Registered care provider with 250 or more full-time equivalent staff or domiciliary care agencies with more than 20 branches are not eligible for investment in this cycle, but may be eligible in Cycle 3 or Cycle 4. Click here for more.

Training Strategy Implementation (TSI) funding: are you claiming?

TSI funding is accessed by Skills for Care from the Department of Health to support workforce development in the Adult social care sector. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Care Brokerage hold the contract for this area.

The following are supported by TSI funding:

Leadership and Management in Care

NVQs in Health and Social Care Levels 2-4

Inductions: Common (CIS) and Managers Inductions Standards (MIS), Learning Disability Qualification (LDQ)

Qualifications: First Aid, Moving and Handling of People, Food Hygiene and ESOL for work

You may be able to claim £70 per unit of learning for your workforce. For further information on how to claim please click here to contact the Brokerage.

Change Consultancy & Training has been contracted by Skills for Care National to carry out a review of how TSI funding operates nationally and across all of the Regions.

Employers are being invited to share their views on different aspects of this funding stream at ‘listening days’.
